Commentary: Sheriff Adam Fortney has demonstrated humility, servant leadership

Over the past few years, I have found Sheriff Adam Fortney to be among the most humble, genuine elected officials I have ever had the privilege to serve with.

Three examples stand out for me when thinking about Sheriff Fortney’s servant leadership and the positive impact it has had on our community:

  1. There has been a noticeable increase in morale within the Sheriff’s Office since Sheriff Fortney was elected. Recent years have been incredibly difficult for law enforcement. During this tumultuous time, Sheriff Fortney has been there to stand with his staff and has advocated on their behalf at every opportunity.
  2. Sheriff Fortney listens. He engages with the public and does so with humility. I have witnessed several encounters where Sheriff Fortney has been willing to hear someone out who has a concern and then work to address that concern. All too often, elected officials are not responsive to their constituents. Sheriff Fortney is a prime example of someone who is not only responsive but cares deeply about the concerns of others.
  3. Sheriff Fortney has gone above and beyond his role in order to serve the most underprivileged in our community. His “Lead the Way” program serves at-risk youth by providing them with role models and invaluable experiences. Sheriff Fortney treats these youth with dignity and respect.

I strongly believe Snohomish County has the best Sheriff in Washington State. I encourage you to join me in voting to re-elect Sheriff Adam Fortney.

Snohomish County Councilman Nate Nehring, Arlington
