34-year-old Lynnwood man killed while illegally crossing highway, hit by bus

LYNNWOOD—A 34-year-old man was killed after being hit by a Community Transit Blue Swift Line bus on State Route 99, near 156th Street Southwest, in Lynnwood on Wednesday morning.

The man, identified as a Matthew T. Raymond, was wearing all black when he illegally attempted to cross the busy highway around 6:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 20. He was struck by the bus in the second lane and was killed on scene.

The Washington State Patrol, who’s in charge of the ensuing investigation, suspect drugs and/or alcohol were involved however the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office have not yet completed their autopsy to confirm.

The driver, 58-year-old  Michael T. Dolium from Marysville, was uninjured and there were no charges filed. He was properly wearing his seatbelt. The bus, on-the-other hand, withstood “reportable damage,” according to the Washington State Patrol. Dolium is cooperating with investigators on the matter and no impairment is believed to be involved in his case.

The fatal collision blocked several lanes of traffic just north of 156th Street.

The Lynnwood Times reached out to both Community Transit and the Washington State Patrol but given the nature of the pending investigation neither were able to comment or provide additional information.
