“I am honored to serve as AWC president and to do my part to help Washington’s cities and towns thrive,” Nehring said. “I look forward to working alongside my colleagues to build stronger, more resilient communities and enhance the well-being of our great state.”

“Mayor Nehring is a proven leader and a true champion for Washington’s cities and towns,” said AWC CEO Deanna Dawson. “He brings a clear focus on bringing cities together and strengthening AWC’s shared voice, while elevating perspectives from communities like Marysville in shaping statewide priorities.”

The president leads the AWC Board of Directors, the association’s governing body. The Board comprises 25 directors, 23 of whom are mayors or city councilmembers and two of whom are non-elected city officials representing the Washington City/County Management Association.

Nehring has served on the AWC Board since 2013 and has also served on AWC’s Audit Committee, Legislative Steering Committee, Education and Training Advisory Committee, and Large City Advisory Committee. He has served as mayor of Marysville since August 2010. He spent more than eight years on the Marysville City Council and has over 16 years of business and management experience in the private sector.

In addition to his 20-plus years of experience as a local elected official, Nehring brings extensive knowledge and perspective from his volunteer service on the Puget Sound Regional Council Executive Board, Community Transit Board, Economic Alliance Snohomish County Board, WSU Everett Advisory Council, and Snohomish County 911 Board.

More than 550 attendees representing 163 cities and towns across Washington attended the AWC Annual Conference to learn about issues critical to the success of municipal governments. The conference featured over 45 educational sessions on topics ranging from land use planning and public safety funding to preparing for autonomous vehicles and the use of AI tools.

Founded in 1933, AWC is a nonprofit corporation that represents Washington’s cities and towns. AWC’s mission is to build connections between the state’s diverse cities and towns while providing members with the support needed to thrive through the delivery of data-driven education, nationally recognized pooling programs, and nonpartisan advocacy.
