Mukilteo Police and Fire departments team up to rescue eleven ducklings

MUKILTEO, Wash, May 21, 2021 – Last night Mukilteo Police and Fire Departments were dispatched for an animal control call on Mukilteo Speedway at 8:24 p.m. after passersby reported ducklings had fallen into a water retention area and were not able to escape.

Mukilteo Fire crews – Engine 24, Engine 25, and Battalion 25 – assessed the situation and initiated rescue operations under the watchful eye of Mama Duck. In total, eleven ducklings were rescued that night in Mukilteo and reunited with Mama Duck.

It appears the ducklings were following Mama across the parking lot when they happened to cross a grate into the storm water retention area. Mama Duck walked across, but the gaps were wide enough and the ducklings small enough that they fell in.

Mukilteo Police Officers provided duckling safety information to Mama Duck. Mama Duck and family were escorted off the property to a wooded area.
