LAKE STEVENS, Wash., January 19, 2023—The Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team (START) released new details in its ongoing investigation on the shooting involving a Lake Stevens officer and an alleged carjacking suspect that occurred on January 13, 2023, in the 9600 Block of 20th Street SE in Lake Stevens.Â
At around 11:30 a.m. Friday, January 13, Lake Stevens Police Officers responded to an attempted car theft call at the Frontier Village Shopping complex.
According to the report, a 33-year-old woman was followed to her car when exiting a retail store by a 30-year-old male suspect. The suspect threw the woman to the ground multiple times before gaining access to her vehicle, the report states.

The suspect crashed into three vehicles as he fled the parking lot with the vehicle and was later located by Officers southbound on SR-9 where he abandoned the stolen van and attempted to flee from officers on foot. The suspect ran toward a marked police vehicle and accessed the driver’s seat, entering a physical altercation with the officer inside. During the alteration the suspect was shot and died at the scene.Â
The Lake Stevens police officer involved in the shooting has been with the department for twelve years and is currently on administrative leave per standard department procedure. START reported that the suspect’s identification and manner of death will be released by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office.Â
The 33-year-old female victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
This investigation is still ongoing.
