At around 11:30 a.m. Friday, January 13, Lake Stevens Police Officers responded to an attempted car theft call at the Frontier Village Shopping complex.

According to the report, a 33-year-old woman was followed to her car when exiting a retail store by a 30-year-old male suspect. The suspect threw the woman to the ground multiple times before gaining access to her vehicle, the report states.

The suspect ran toward a marked police vehicle and accessed the driver’s seat, entering a physical altercation with the officer inside. During the alteration the suspect was shot and died at the scene.

The Lake Stevens police officer involved in the shooting has been with the department for twelve years and is currently on administrative leave per standard department procedure. START reported that the suspect’s identification and manner of death will be released by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office.
