Beloved Edmonds School District Superintendent passes away

LYNNWOOD, Wash., April 4, 2023—The Foundation for Edmonds School District announced the passing of former Edmonds School District Superintendent Dr. Nick Brossoit on Saturday, April 2, from his battle with pancreatic cancer.  A service will be held at North County Christ the King Church in Lynden, 1 p.m. on April 15.

The announcement from the Foundation reads:

“Mr. Brossoit was a thoughtful and kindhearted man with a strong faith. He cared deeply about the people in his life, particularly the coaches and teachers who took him under their wing and helped him stay away from trouble as a youth. The profound effect of these individuals led Dr. Brossoit into a lifetime of education and service and he spent much of his time dedicated to the students and families he came into contact with. With great integrity, Dr. Brossoit cared for and loved everyone around him.

“He began his career as a teacher and coach in the Franklin Pierce and Peninsula School Districts, and then served as Assistant Principal, Director of Special Programs, and Assistant Superintendent in the Burlington-Edison School District before becoming Superintendent in the Edmonds School District from 2004 – 2016.

“Throughout his career, Dr. Brossoit took a holistic approach to giving our children the best opportunities for their personal, academic, and creative success. This included passing successful bond and levy campaigns, increasing Washington State’s education budget allocations through legislation, aligning curriculum to achieve state learning goals, developing a system to remediate reading, writing and arithmetic skills for students, and training staff in modern methods of assessing and teaching skills. Many students have also benefitted from the Dr. Nick Brossoit post-secondary scholarship.

“Our thoughts are with Dr. Brossoit’s family and friends during this difficult time.”

Dr. Brossoit’s book, Love the People in Line: Through the Eyes of My Heart, was published in March 2022 and will be available on Amazon. Proceeds from the book benefit the Dr. Nick Brossoit Scholarship, established by the Foundation for Edmonds School District in 2017. Scholarships, such as this, provide critical support to students pursuing post-secondary education in vocational, 2- and 4-year certificates or degrees.

Dr. Nick Brossoit is survived by his wife Jennifer Vachon, stepsons Jack and Kael, a daughter and son Kyle Brossoit.

  • He is also survived by his daughter and son Kyle Brossoit. I find it strange they were not mentioned.
