MARYSVILLE, Wash., April 16, 2023—The City of Marysville is excited to announce the launch of the Marysville Litter League, a new volunteer litter pickup program aimed at keeping the community clean and beautiful.

Mayor Jon Nehring is highlighting the importance of community involvement in the effort to combat litter. “Every piece of litter picked up in Marysville is a step towards a cleaner, healthier and more vibrant city,” he said. “Together, we can make a big impact in our community.”

To support this initiative, join Earth Day activities on Tuesday, April 18:

• 11 a.m.: Meet at St. Mary’s back parking lot near the Marysville Food Bank (4150 88th St NE). Mayor Nehring and City Councilmembers will kick off the litter pickup walk with Marysville Litter League Team Captain and April Volunteer of the Month Toni Kief.
• 3-6 p.m.: Free litter pickup kits will be given out at the Marysville Community Center parking lot (1015 State Ave). After April 18, litter kits will be available for pickup at the Marysville Community Center (1015 State Ave) and Marysville Civic Center (501 Delta Ave) during regular business hours.

April’s Volunteer of the Month, Toni Kief, is leading by example with litter pickup in Marysville. Since she started the effort in 2020, she’s picked up 1,327 bags and counting! The goal this year is to reach 2,000 bags, with the help of Marysville Litter League volunteers. Check out this video to learn more about Toni’s litter pickup journey.

Residents and businesses are encouraged to pick up litter in typical walking areas in their neighborhoods, not on busy arterial streets. Large or dangerous debris found on public property can be reported to the city’s Solid Waste division at 360-363-8173. Bagged litter collected during the challenge can be placed with regular household or business trash.
