BOTHELL—Special Investigation Unit detectives arrested a Kevin Mendoza Montoya, 23, of Bothell, on Monday, September 9, on charges of first-degree burglary and second-degree child molestation related to a home invasion last Friday.
Montoya and victim do not know each other, says the Sheriff’s Office and the suspect is expected to be booked into the Snohomish County Jail today.
Special Investigation Unit detectives shared their thanks the Bailey Farm Apartment Complex management team for their assistance and cooperation that led to a quick identification and subsequent arrest of the suspect.
The suspect allegedly broke into a Bailey Farm Apartment in Bothell around 2 a.m. Friday, September 6 and sexually assaulted an 11-year-old child who was asleep in their bedroom. There were no signs of forced entry, and the apartment unit was believed to be left unlocked. One of the child’s parents and at least one other child were in the apartment at the time.
When the second child awoke the suspect immediately fled the scene on foot. The parent called 911 and Detectives responded around 2:00 a.m., searching the perimeter but were unable to locate the suspect. Detectives working for the Sheriff’s Office do not know how long the suspect was inside of the apartment before fleeing at this time.
The 11-year-old victim is okay, Courtney O’Keefe, Public Information Officer for the Sheriff’s Office said, and is currently being evaluated and interviewed.
