LYNNWOOD–In partnership with Project Girl Mentoring, Edmonds School District, and the City of Lynnwood, invites the community to gather for the Juneteenth Freedom Festival on Thursday, June 19, 2025, from 10:00 A.M. to 3:00 PM at the Cedar Valley Community School. This powerful community celebration honors Juneteenth, the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States.
Rooted in the historical moment of June 19, 1865, when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to declare the end of slavery—two years after the Emancipation Proclamation—Juneteenth is more than a milestone. It’s a vibrant call to remember, reflect, and recommit to justice, equity, and unity for all.
The 2025 Freedom Festival will offer a family-centered, inclusive celebration featuring:
● Local Performers & Cultural Expressions
● Inspiring Guest Speakers
● Interactive Youth Activities
● Kids Face Painting
● Kids Soccer Demo
● Black-Owned Small Business Vendors
● Community Resource Booths
● Food Trucks and Music
“This is not just a celebration—it’s a platform for reflection and action,” said Olympia Edwards, CEO of Project Girl Mentoring. “Through joy, education, and togetherness, we honor the legacy of Juneteenth while also looking forward to the work ahead in building an inclusive future.”
The event embodies Lynnwood’s city motto: “All Are Welcome.” From commemorating Black liberation to uplifting community voices and promoting economic equity, the Freedom Festival affirms the city’s commitment to accessible, meaningful engagement for all residents.
Economic Empowerment at the Heart
Small businesses—especially those led by Black and underrepresented entrepreneurs—will be at the forefront, with vendor booths available at no cost. This reflects Lynnwood’s strategic goal of creating economic equity by removing barriers and fostering opportunities for every community member.
Community Resources & Services
In collaboration with local nonprofits and businesses, the festival will also host organizations offering mental health support, food insecurity, youth mentoring, elder care, and more, recognizing that liberation includes access to resources that strengthen families and communities.
