Meet James Sterba and Donna Vago – the new faces of Mukilteo City Council

MUKILTEO—Mukilteo City Hall has two new faces sitting on the City Council dais, James Sterba and Donna Vago, who collectively bring with them years of commitment to community service and a passion for the city they serve.

James Sterba

Councilmember, Position No. 2

Councilmember Sterba serves on the Mukilteo City Council after being elected to a four-year term commencing in 2026.

James is honored to represent the interests of our community and committed to fostering a collaborative, common sense approach to local governance with our residents. With a distinguished career in senior leadership at The Boeing Company, James demonstrates a strong commitment to innovation, collaborative problem solving, and promoting teamwork.

He focuses on fiscal stewardship, public safety, fostering economic growth, protecting the character of our neighborhoods, and ensuring the voices of citizens are heard in government decisions. He believes in transparent governance and actively engages with constituents and local business leaders to address their concerns and aspirations.

Councilmember Sterba holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from The University of Washington, Seattle and a master’s degree in business administration (MBA) from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Outside of his council responsibilities and professional work, James enjoys spending time with his wife and daughters engaging in local activities and exploring the natural beauty of Mukilteo and the Pacific Northwest.

Donna Vago

Councilmember, Position No. 6

Council Member Vago was elected to a four-year term in 2023.

Donna graduated from Antelope Valley College in 1996, Arts, Letters and Sciences, Cum Laude. Donna is devoted to the Mukilteo community, business, culture and future planning. She makes decisions based on data and research and by listening to the needs of the community. Donna and her family have lived in Mukilteo since 1997. She is a watercolor artist, and enjoys gardening, being outdoors and traveling together with her husband.
