On Sunday, July 21, hundreds gathered at Silver Creek Family Church to cool off under the sun at its Summer Splashdown. The community event featured a 100-foot water slide for all ages, a kids waterslide, gourmet hotdogs and music.
Pastor Brent Hudson was thrilled to see so many new faces and said they will need another slide for next year. This is the first Summer Splashdown event. “People are just walking in from the neighborhood with their towels. It is great to give back to the community and we are blessed to have this amazing weather.”
When asked why a waterslide event, Pastor Hudson replied, “We want to make a better community. In order to do that we must first bring the community together. Our goal is to allow people to connect, removing them from isolation, to discover God’s plan for them to get the most out of life.”
Silver Creek residents John and Jenny Hossler heard about the event and came over with their three children, Levi, Sophia, and Trinity, for the excitement. They moved from North Seattle to Lynnwood a few years ago because of Lynnwood’s affordable home prices.
“The drop-off is incredible,” replied John Hossler when asked if he enjoyed the mammoth 100-foot water slide. His son Levi, on the other hand, said it was horrible, but wanted to do it again! They appreciated Silver Creek Family Church for hosting the event and feel it is a great way to get the community involved and meet one another.
Silvia Gobraiel’s daughter Mila and son Lelo braved the kids slide. Silvia’s father told her about the event which she said is perfect for little kids during the summer. Whitney Buckingham, an 8-year member of the church, said the playground is open during the week to provide a safe environment for young kids.
The next big events scheduled are “Cut the Bull” on October 6 where attendees will have an opportunity to ride a mechanical bull, and a December 7 tree lighting ceremony. The person who can ride the bull the longest will receive free Seahawk tickets.
Silver Creek Family Church is located at 5326 176th St. S.W. and services are 9:30 A.M. and 11 A.M. every Sunday, where members are greeted with a live band.
