Julieta Altamirano-Crosby announces reelection campaign for Lynnwood City Council

LYNNWOOD, Wash., May 5, 2023—Lynnwood Council Vice President Dr. Julieta Altamirano-Crosby in her continued commitment to building a strong and vibrant welcoming Lynnwood community, is announcing her re-election campaign for Lynnwood City Council Position 5.

“Lynnwood deserves a council, representative of its diverse make-up,” says Dr. Altamirano-Crosby. “Together we can build a strong Lynnwood community, removing barriers to opportunities, and create place where our kids will feel safe.”

Councilwoman Altamirano-Crosby is the former Chair of the Board of Health for the Snohomish County Health Department. She is a member of the Volunteers of America Steering Committee for the Lynnwood Neighborhood Center that is located on the grounds of Trinity Lutheran Church which will provide behavioral health, childcare, and medical services to the community.

During the last four years as your council member, Lynnwood Council Vice President Dr. Altamirano-Crosby secured $2.5 million towards Lynnwood Public Works for citywide residential street improvements, $400,000 for the Lynnwood Food Bank, and $60,000 towards tutoring students. She supported ARPA Funds being allocated to the Lynnwood Neighborhood Center, Scriber Lake Boardwalk project, Silver Creek Church for parking lot repair and lighting, and Hero’s Café for local veterans.

In addition to organizing and hosting three Let’s Talk About Safety forums, she supported body cameras for the Lynnwood Police, a fully funded police department, and voted to ban public outdoor use of control substances and counterfeit drugs.

In 2021, Councilwoman Altamirano-Crosby led the effort for a resolution recognizing Cinco de Mayo in both the City of Lynnwood and Snohomish County. In continuing her pledge for a welcoming and inclusive city, she is the Sister City liaison, organized Lynnwood’s “Peace for Ukraine Vigil,” and assisted Refugee & Immigrant Services Northwest in relocating Afghan refugees.

In a cultural partnership with Lynnwood’s Sister City, Mexican dance legend Concepción Bello Nava (Conchita) taught then led three local dance troupes with traditional Mexican folk dances that performed at Cedar Valley Gym to a family-friendly crowd of hundreds, thanks to the efforts of Vice President Altamirano-Crosby.

During the pandemic, Dr. Altamirano-Crosby led several campaigns providing COVID tests and vaccinations to residents.

“The strength of our city resides in its people, its businesses, and its centers of learning,” says Councilwoman Altamirano-Crosby.

Lynnwood has grown into a vibrant city with a strong economy including many family-owned businesses, quality neighborhoods and a wide range of community amenities. Our youth has access to cutting-edge research opportunities thanks to Edmonds College, our city is not only the home to Sound Transit’s upcoming light rail transit center and Community Transit’s Orange Line, but is also undergoing a transformation to provide affordable housing for thousands of families.

“Growing up, my family raised me with the values to always work hard, keep learning and give back to the community,” says Dr. Altamirano-Crosby. “Health, housing, infrastructure and education are the key focus areas for our city.”

As an immigrant working together with underrepresented and underserved members of our community, uniquely qualifies her to ensure their needs will be addressed and their voices represented equitably.

Councilwoman Altamirano-Crosby has been a tremendous force helping the most vulnerable among residents in the city by volunteering with the Lynnwood Food Bank and the Refugee and Immigrant Service Northwest. She is a member of the League of Women Voters of Snohomish County, a Stakeholder Member of Re-opening of Washington Schools for 2020-2021 school year, and a Board member on the following organizations: Lynnwood Food Bank, Community Leadership Board of the National Resource Center for Refugees, Immigrants, and Migrants (NRC-RIM), and the Foundation for Edmonds School District.

She has received numerous awards, including The Defense of Human Rights Award from Governor Evelyn Salgado Pineda of Guerrero, Mexico, the Snohomish County Human Rights Award in 2017, the Distinguished Alumni Award at Everett Community College 2019, and was named the Seattle Pacific University Medallion Award Honoree in 2020.

In 2018, Governor Jay Inslee appointed Dr. Altamirano-Crosby as a Commissioner to the Washington State Commission on Hispanic Affairs and in 2019, to the Humanities Washington Board of Trustees. She was recognized by SPIRIT 105.3 as an “unsung hero.”

Dr. Altamirano-Crosby is a trained researcher, selfless representative, and experienced leader to move Lynnwood forward.

“Preparing for change is my field of expertise as a researcher,” said Dr. Julieta Altamirano-Crosby. “With a long track record of leading successful collaborations between community members and government projects, I would be honored to continue my service representing the residents of Lynnwood.”
