Statement from Congressman Rick Larsen: “I am humbled and energized by the preliminary results of this primary election. Tens of thousands of voters have made their voices heard in the 2nd District, and regardless of who they voted for, they have participated in and strengthened our democracy. For that, they have my thanks.

“There are more votes to be counted before the results are final, but I am proud to see the show of support my campaign has received so far. It is the honor of a lifetime to represent Northwest Washington in Congress – one that I will never take for granted. I am grateful to every person who has attended one of my events, taken a few minutes to talk with me at their door, donated to help my team communicate with voters, and cast a ballot to support my work. My friends and neighbors organizing at the grassroots level is the foundation of my campaign. Everything that we accomplish in Washington D.C., we accomplish together.

“Our work is not slowing down. This fall, our community’s shared values – working hard, caring for each other, and serving the community – are on the ballot. The stakes could not be higher. I am running for re-election so I can continue to work to protect reproductive freedom, combat fentanyl in our communities, build an economy that works for everyone, increase access to health care, and support our veterans.

“Thank you to everyone who has made tonight’s results possible, and I look forward to building on our momentum as November approaches.”

According to the prediction model by The Hill, Larsen has a >99% likelihood to win the CD 2 race in the 2024 General Election.

Congressional District 3: Likely Republican Gain

The 3rd Congressional District is now between Trump-endorsed candidate Joe Kent— Navy an Army Green Beret and former field operative for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)—and incumbent Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, who flipped the congressional seat to Democrat.

  • Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (Prefers Democratic Party) 81,311, 45.59%

Republican challenger Lewallen has officially endorsed Kent for the race to flip CD3 back to Red.

Kent lost to Perez in November 2022 after defeating former Representative Jaime Herrera Beutler in the primary election. Beutler, a Republican, joined Rep. Dan Newhouse (R WA-04) and all Democratic U.S. House Representatives from Washington state to impeach the 45th President of the United States, Donald J Trump, charging him with “incitement of insurrection” for his alleged role in the Capitol Building protest.

Although the 45th President of the United States, Donald J Trump, was formally impeached by the 117th Congress on January 13, 2021, for “high crimes and misdemeanors” related to the January 6th Capitol Breach, the Senate acquitted Trump of the impeachment charge on February 13, 2021.

For her statement to residents for advancing to the finals, Perez posted a lengthy and somewhat emotional rant about white nationalism, abortion, conspiracy theories, etc.

Perez won the seat for Democrats by 0.89% or 2,629 votes. According to the prediction model by The Hill, Joe Kent is favored to win CD 3 in the 2024 General Election, a gain for Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Congressional District 4: Likely to Remain Republican Seat

The 4th Congressional District is now between Trump-endorsed candidate Jerrod Sessler— Navy veteran, former NASCAR driver, and businessman—and incumbent Dan Newhouse who is the last remaining elected Republican in office who voted to impeach the 45th President of the United States, Donald J Trump.

  • Barry Knowles (Prefers Democrat Party) 2,406, 2.36%

  • Dan Newhouse (Prefers Republican Party) 24,535, 24.07%
  • Jerrod Sessler (Prefers Republican Party) 32,364, 31.76%
  • John Malan (Prefers MAGA Democrat Party) 527, 0.52%
  • Mary Baechler (Prefers Democratic Party) 14,753, 14.48%
  • Tiffany Smiley (Prefers Republican Party) 19,655, 19.29%

According to the prediction model by The Hill, this is a tossup between the two candidates.

On January 13, 2021, the U.S. House of Representatives voted 231-197 to impeach President Donald J Trump, charging him with “incitement of insurrection” for his alleged role in the Capitol Building protest.

Ten Republicans led by Rep. Liz Cheney voted in favor for impeachment. Jaime Herrera Beutler (WA-03) and Dan Newhouse (WA-04) joined all Democrat U.S. House Representatives from Washington state to vote for the impeachment.

The Washington State Republican Party State Committee, overwhelmingly passed a Resolution by a vote of 111 to 2, condemning the impeachment of President Donald J Trump and expressing disappointment in U.S. House Democrats and the two Washington state Republicans, Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler and Rep. Dan Newhouse, who also voted for impeachment on Wednesday, January 13, 2021.

Congressional District 5: Likely to Remain Republican Seat

The 5th Congressional District is now between Republican Michael Baumgartner—current Spokane County Treasurer and former Washington State Senator—and Democrat Carmela Conroy—former Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for Spokane County.

  • Ann Marie Danimus (Prefers Democratic Party) 8,275, 5.71%
  • Bernadine Bank (Prefers Democratic Party) 17,428, 12.02%
  • Bobbi Bennett-Wolcott (Prefers Democratic Party) 1,777, 1.23%
  • Brian Dansel (Prefers Republican Party) 14,636, 10.09%
  • Carmela Conroy (Prefers Democratic Party) 28,354, 19.55%
  • Jacquelin Maycumber (Prefers Republican Party) 17,582, 12.12%
  • Jonathan D Bingle (Prefers Republican Party) 5,149, 3.55%
  • Matthew Welde (Prefers Democratic Party) 3,122, 2.15%
  • Michael Baumgartner (Prefers Republican Party) 40,769, 28.11%
  • Rene’ Holaday (Prefers Republican Party) 4,228, 2.92%
  • Rick Valentine Flynn (Prefers Republican Party) 3,567, 2.46%

According to the prediction model by The Hill, Joe Baumgartner has a 95% likelihood to win CD 5 in the 2024 General Election.

Ten-term Congresswoman, Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05) of Eastern Washington, announced February 8, that she will not be seeking re-election this year for the seat.

Congressional District 6: Likely to Remain Democratic Seat

The 6th Congressional District is now between Democratic Emily Randall and Republican Drew C MacEwen—both Washington State Senators.

  • Hilary Franz (Prefers Democratic Party) 41,392, 24.89%
  • J. Graham Ralston (Prefers Independent Party) 4,573, 2.75%
  • Janis Clark (Prefers Republican Party) 12,711, 7.64%

According to the prediction model by The Hill, a Democratic candidate has a 96% likelihood to win CD 6 in the 2024 General Election. However, because of Randall extreme progressive views, MacEwen may be able to sway enough Franz supporters to clinch the win.

United States Representative Derek Kilmer (D WA-06) announced that he was not seeking re-election. Then-gubernatorial candidate, Public Lands Commissioner Hilary Franz, a day later announced she would run for Kilmer’s seat.
